The city of Elkhorn, located just north of Geneva Lake in southeast Wisconsin, is a warm and friendly community of over 9,000 people who enjoy small-town life at its finest. Offering a quaint, historic atmosphere, the city of Elkhorn emphasizes its most unique characteristics while providing all the amenities you would expect from a growing Midwestern city, such as quality education, diverse employment and housing, outdoor recreation, and exciting attractions. Elkhorn is also conveniently near two major urban centers; Milwaukee is just a short 45 miles northeast and Chicago is 88 miles southeast.
Throughout its over 150 years of history, Elkhorn has earned a reputation for its picturesque beauty; in fact, many of its most charming downtown scenes have been distributed nationwide on postcards, Christmas cards, and paintings, such as those commissioned by the Ford Motor Company in the 1950s. Nicknamed the “Christmas Card Town,” Elkhorn has a time-honored tradition of bringing the spirit of Christmas into the hearts of residents and visitors alike every season with its downtown decorations, bustling shops and restaurants, and annual Christmas Parade, held the first Saturday in December.
In addition to its Yuletide events, Elkhorn is also well-loved for its beautiful location amidst the lakes, forests, and green rolling hills of southeast Wisconsin, which offer an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities all year round. The city boasts over 5 parks and nature areas, including the 34-acre Babe Mann Park—home to Elkhorn Lake—and Sunset Park, which contains most of the city’s recreational facilities. The White River Bike Trail, a converted railway corridor that runs from Elkhorn to Burlington, offers 12.6 miles of peaceful trail for hiking and bicycling enthusiasts, and for golf lovers, Elkhorn is home to the scenic championship Evergreen Golf Course.
