Welcome to Waukesha, WIWaukesha, Wisconsin is a thriving city with diverse industry that is strongly connected to neighboring cities Milwaukee and Madison. With a population of nearly 70,000, the city has a friendly, tight-knit community that is dedicated to cultivating a well-rounded, safe environment that is healthy for people of all ages. Waukesha has received many accolades as a highly “livable” city; it was #36 in Money magazine’s list of top 100 “Best Places to Live” in 2006, and it was also included in America’s Promise Alliance’s list of “100 Best Communities for Young People.” Cultural attractions in the city include performances by the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra and the Waukesha Choral Union, as well as a variety of drama, music and dance productions at the Waukesha Civic Theatre. The Historic Downtown Waukesha and Riverwalk is home to a number of locally owned shops and boutiques, restaurants, galleries, and architecture that recalls the city’s great history. The area houses the public library and the Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum, located in the 1893 Waukesha County Courthouse building. Many of the city’s festivals, art fairs, charity events and children’s programs are held downtown as well. Waukesha is home to a highly acclaimed school system that includes three comprehensive high schools, three middle schools, and 17 elementary schools. Also, Waukesha boasts the oldest institution of higher learning in the state—Carroll College, originally established as Prairieville Academy in 1841.
