Unique Ypsilanti, MI

Ypsilanti is within Washtenaw County, between Ann Arbor and metro Detroit. According to the 2000 census the city population is 22,362. Ypsilanti is home to the fourth-largest university in Michigan, Eastern Michigan University. Henry Ford brought the automotive industry to Ypsilanti in the 1930's, utilizing Ford Lake to generate hydroelectric power for the manufacturing plants. Ypsilanti was home to the Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II, bringing in job seekers from around the United States. Ypsilanti continues to attract visitors to its historic Depot Town, featuring a collection of memorable shops, a popular farmers’ market and an antique automobile museum. Annual festivals include the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival, the Festival of Lights, a New Year Jubilee and the highly anticipated Frog Island Music Festival.

Ypsilanti offers unique cultural events and attractions, and many consider it to be the Brooklyn to Ann Arbor's Manhattan. With the increase of land value and taxes in nearby Ann Arbor, many artists, poets and musicians are attracted to the affordable lifestyle Ypsilanti has to offer. This new surge of artists has brought on a vibrant underground scene. Local artists gather semiannually at the juried Shadow Art Fair held at The Corner Brewery, and a lively puppet playhouse known as the Dreamland Theatre has emerged.

As of the fourth quarter 2009, the average residential sale price in Ypsilanti is $82,827 and the average condominium sale price is $46,360.
