Ypsilanti is home to the fourth-largest university in Michigan, Eastern Michigan University. Henry Ford brought the automotive industry to Ypsilanti in the 1930's, utilizing Ford Lake to generate hydroelectric power for the manufacturing plants. Ypsilanti was home to the Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II, bringing in job seekers from around the United States.
