Welcome to St. John, Virgin Islands
The island of St. John is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands, located approximately four miles east of St. Thomas and the USVI capital Charlotte Amalie. Although at 28 total square miles, St. John is the smallest island in the USVI, many people agree that it is the most beautiful. A majority of the island is designated as U.S. National Park land, and the many acres of untouched tropical wilderness add to the island’s ambience and intrigue, attracting outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world. Outdoor recreation on St. John is unparalleled: residents and visitors can boat, swim, and surf in the crystal turquoise blue waters, hike and bike the island’s trails and wild terrain, or observe the mysterious petroglyphs carved into the rocks and cliffs that dot the island’s landscape. St. John’s north shore holds the island’s most popular beaches; in fact, Trunk Bay—the most famous St. John beach—has been voted by Condé Nast Traveler magazine as one of the “Ten Best Beaches in the World.” Unlike the other U.S. Virgin Islands—St. Thomas and St. Croix—most of St. John’s coastline is pleasantly void of hotels and resorts, which means that residents and visitors can relax in the sand with uninterrupted ocean views.
